Confession: I have never read a Harry Potter book. I have never seen a Harry Potter movie. I have no idea who Emma Watson is and why people are excited that she’s coming to Middlebury. I do not understand the comparison between the Middlebury College Commons system and Hogwart’s.
That said, I feel compelled to write about the Intercollegiate Quidditch (whatever that is!) World Cup Festival this Sunday. For one, my Midd Blog predecessor wrote about all things Harry Potter. For another, Midd Blog readers love their Harry Potter. I have a sixth sense about these things. So, without further adieu . . .
There will be an Intercollegiate Quidditch World Cup Festival this Sunday (duh), 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. According to the invitation sent by Alex Benepe (whoever he is!), 12 Middlebury League Teams will compete for the top spots and then play against the visiting Vassar Quidditch team.
For the spectators, the Festival promises tents, bleachers, hot food and drinks, with live performances by RIDDIM, Genius Cave, The Mountain Ayres (they’re good!), Market Zero, the Pep Band, Irish Anonymous, and Jugglers. I wonder if they’ll juggle Quidditch brooms.
The parade and opening ceremony is at noon with a half-time show at 3 p.m. This is like the Super Bowl.
And, yes, USA TODAY will be there. Midd Blog is still undecided, but the promise of hot food seems compelling. I like hot food. I might even like Quidditch.
