Middlebury Confessional Stats

By a show of hands, how many of you are already addicted to Middlebury Confessional?

Super Sleuth Ryan Kellett ’09, who is currently studying in China, collected some interesting Middlebury Confessional stats from Shibo Xu, the creator and operator of the site:

As of now, the site has 5,232 visits and 127,428 page views. Of those visits, 2,054 have been from unique computers. Visitors typically view 24.36 pages and spend an average of 14:51 minutes per visit. 39.26% of all visits are from new visitors. Students studying abroad in China hold the record for the most visits to the site, outside the Middlebury College campus (Ryan accounts for 84% of the China visits– just kidding!) Students studying abroad in Argentina hold the record for spending the longest time on the site at an average of 34:05 minutes per visit. MiddBlog/Midd Blog refers 22% of all traffic to Middlebury Confessional.

Shibo asks, ” . . . If people want to get in touch with me on the confessional, I encourage them to just add my name, ‘Shibo,’ to the post. I will search for my name on the confessional periodically and try to respond to the post.”

Shibo also asks, “Be kind to one another. I’m very worried that the confessional will end up like Juicy Campus, filled with slander and personal attacks. It’s OK to discuss controversial issues, such as race, sexual abuse or any other taboo. It’s not OK to name out specific people and attacking them while you hide behind your computer.”

Amen.

Sad to think that people fly halfway across the world to log onto a computer and read stupid gossip from home.

Hey now, I’m halfway around the world and I don’t even call Middlebury home anymore, but I’m still addicted to the site.

I’m just interested to see what’s going on a Midd, and my conclusion is:

    1. Some people get lots of sex, and love to brag.
    2. Some people don’t get any, and are really bummed about it.
    3. Some people are sliding through Midd with good grades, easy majors, and lots of drugs.
    4. Lacrosse players sure get a bad rap.
    5. Some people are depressed/have eating disorders/have other very serious problems.

Wow, I’m kind of glad that I’m not in college anymore. (Not that anything has really changed.)

Thanks to middleburyconfessional, I’m more in tune with the gossip than when I was there. Sometimes I’m driven to give some advice, but then it occurs to me that my advice is worthless. Ah well.

  4. Karl, and just how would your advice be worthless? Quit complaining!

There you go. Maybe I’m not in any better place than anyone else on the discussion board. And maybe someone just telling you how it’s done doesn’t do it, maybe you need to make all the mistakes for yourself. I certainly have learned that myself.

I’m not sure it’s a complaint, more of an observation. What else would go up on the board? In a way, it’s all the most reasonable stuff for that kind of forum. Besides, since I’m addicted, I can’t say it isn’t interesting!
