Heal the Rift 2008, This Weekend, NYC
Middlebury College gets a lot free press for the Sunday Night Group (SNG) and the various Bill McKibben projects including the recent 350.org. But Middkids aren’t just environmentally-inclined. Enter: Heal the Rift, “a non-profit, non-political organization founded by four college students, two from the West and two from the Muslim World, in a dorm room, in Middlebury, Vermont. These four friends refused to accept the “status quo” of increasing polarization between the West and the Islamic world. Through their event, HTR 2008, they will accomplish the simple, long-awaited task of finally bringing their two civilizations together in a public forum of truth, respect, and reconciliation.”
And Heal the Rift 2008 is upon us. It is this Saturday, July 19th 3-6PM in New York City’s Washington Square Park. Yes, musical performances and speakers galore. This is funded in part by the 100 Projects for Peace grant.
Quoting from their Facebook event, “Large-scale attendance and widespread coverage of HTR 2008 would demonstrate mass rejection of the message of radicals and fringe elements. HTR 2008 is not geared towards policy change, nor is it a political protest — it is simply an opportunity to celebrate solidarity between two cultures that share the same basic values.”
So, all your NYC-ists working those Lehman Brother internships this summer, you better get on over to this event. And if you’re already in NY, why not hit up some more Middkids who are rocking out the summer theatre season (already in full swing) at the Potomac Theatre Project (PTP) at the Atlantic Theatre Company Stage 2. Check out the especially awesome After Dark series of the PTP which features Middkids up close and personal…
