Obama vs. McCain, Part 1.
Last night marked the first in a series of presidential debates between Democratic Candidate Sen. Barack Obama (IL) and Republican Candidate Sen. John McCain (AZ). I give you a short little teaser of their discussion on Iran below. The rest you’ll find on YouTube or CNN.
I’ll confess that, since I’m in Italy, I was asleep when the debate aired and have only watched about the first 5 min. Thus, if from a policy and campaign standpoint, this debate is the reincarnation of Kennedy-Nixon, I’m totally going to watch it NOW. However, if one or both of the candidates was so off their game that it’s embarrassing, I’m peacing-out and going to Pisa instead and just going to make sure I have it watched before the VP debate on Thursday.
Thus, MiddBlog wants to know: If you watched the debate, what’d you think?
It was the best entertainment since The Dark Knight release this summer.
Obama rocked the house. Someone’s totally going to write another song.
McCain was on fire. I finally know what “maverick” means.
The Office premier Thursday night was more entertaining.
It was more important to get in the line for the Bunker.
(As always, actual policy analysis encouraged.)
PS: For your early morning reading, don’t forget to check out all of Prof. Dickinson’s live-blogging and analysis.
EDIT (rkellett): Record numbers of students showed up at Palmer House and The Grille to watch the debate last night. Debatable was reportedly trying to get Roosevelt Institution to do live-reaction blogging but checking Debatable‘s new blog this morning yielded no results. Maybe they’ll have better luck for the Vice Presidential debates next Thursday…

Although I lack a television and could not watch The Office premier, my guess is that it was more entertaining. In fact, Professor Dickinson’s play-by-play made the debate seem all the more interesting and I am glad to have his insight. I was really hoping for McCain to make a serious mistake and he just didn’t deliver. Boo. I anxiously await the Palin/Biden debate next week. This ought to be good.
It’s too early for actual policy analysis, Emily. Good thing I’m not the one answering the phone at 3 a.m.
