10th Anniversary of the Commons
As we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Commons this month, Time.com brings us news that other institutions around the country are giving the Hogwarts-style housing and social life a try. Check out Vanderbilt University which spent $150 Million on their Commons system…
“The goal is a living-and-learning environment that promotes both school spirit and responsibility to community among an increasingly diverse student body. Tactics include creating residential areas for first-years only, encouraging student-faculty interaction, extending orientation to full-term classes and hiring extra staff who plan activities like ice cream socials and watch out for strugglers.”
Yes, that’s exactly how it works here.

Ryan,
Good post, and great take on the importance of this month in Commons history. I actually have a special post planned (on One Dean’s View) for this 10 year anniversary, which actually takes place at the end of the month. It will be short and evocative, or so I hope.
Stay tuned.
