Middvites.com

Sometimes, MiddBlog gets humbled by a new entrant into the realm of “Online Middlebury.” Today, we welcome Middvites.com, a “social facilitator” for us shy, awkward Middkids who “probably won’t introduce yourself at the salad bar” and are instead “waiting for this magic moment.” Finally, we can invite our crushes to parties anonymously and then still awkwardly introduce ourselves there instead of in the dining hall.

Behind the magic of an all-pink site? Konstantin Schaller ’09 and Hussein Alramini ’09 started plugging their site on the last year’s craze: Middlebury Confessional.

So far, the feedback is good: “strangely charming,” “actualy cool” and “genius” are the first impression responese on Confessional. I too think it’s an interesting concept that is wonderful precisely because it is custom-built for Middlebury College. This is not a rubber-stamp a program started at another college. It links in to the existing community (it even uses MiddBlog/MCAB’s Event Feed!) as well as uses powerful yet simple-to-use technology that links with our favorite friend: our mobile phones (via Twitter). And furthermore, it doesn’t push an agenda of dating versus hookup culture. It just helps you meet new Middkids…well, hopefully.

So good on ya, Middvites and welcome to you!
