Best of lists: they’re ubiquitous, always too early and annoying. Yet somehow we read them anyway, probably because they are amusing, accurate and infinitely more dependable than Congress right now. Thus, for this final Sunday Reading of 2008 (you’re all going home and won’t read MiddBlog anyway), I give you some of the more interesting lists as they stand so far.
- Best Innovations of the Political Season (Will.i.am’s “Yes We Can” had to appear on a list somewhere)
- Best Green Blogs
- Best Presidential Primary Moments
- TIME’s Best Websites (Raise your hand if you’ve even heard of half these sites before)
- Stephen King’s Best Movies of 2008
- NYT’s Top Ideas of 2008 (Wait, there’s a formula I could have used while waiting for the bus in Florence every morning?)
- Best Viral Videos
- Best Obama Logos that didn’t happen
- NY Mag’s Year in Culture
- Best Music Singles according to the Bible (aka Rolling Stone)
For the best idea, however, of just what 2008 brought, or what 2008 was a part of, check out this video. Entitled “Incredible Facts about our digital world” and tagged as a viral video for Ron Paul, the video puts into perspective how fast our world moves these days.

Hey Emily,
Thanks for the shout-out. Great list – I particularly enjoyed the Obama logos that didn’t make it, somehow it had slipped through the cracks of my political design obsession.
Anyway, since you asked, we do have another list: the best album art of 2008 – with the added value of picking only albums that had great music to back up the great artwork. And check out the comments after it – someone shared a similar but much more extensive list that they did, which is also pretty cool.
Happy holidays.
