Print Quotas and a Cellphone Room
Occasionally, the “All Things LIS” blog has some nuggets of upcoming academic/facility changes that affect students. This week, two items of note:
- Print Quotas Coming Soon: “In the Fall we intend to begin issuing print quotas. After a quota has been reached, the person would need to pay for their print outs using a credit card.”"
- Cell phone room?: “Do you think that we should provide a soundproof space [in the library] for impromptu phone conversations? If so, what should it look like and where should it be?”

The foyer between the first and second set of doors of the library is essentially the library cell phone room. Unfortunately, the construction of the lobby with an open ceiling (or at least, one that rises a couple stories) allows sound to shoot up towards the students at the tables, blue chairs, and nearby desks. It’s generally understood for students to carry on cell conversations in that foyer instead of the lobby. Construction of a “soundproof” space is unnecessary.
