- 5:05 p.m. Lecture by author Bill McKibben, “What Gives a College Power: On Being a Learning, Teaching Community at a Moment of Change”
- 6 p.m. Student perspective, Middlebury senior Billie Jayne Borden
- 6:05 p.m. Video slideshow tour of biomass plant with Q & A
- 6:30 p.m. Walk-through tours of biomass plant, which is next to McCullough Student Center

- 12,500 metric tons: CO2 saved per year
- 40%: Percentage of Middlebury’s total CO2 output cut
- 1,000,000 gallons #6 fuel oil saved per year
- +/- 300 million years: Time needed to replenish petroleum stores
- 30 to 50 years: Time for a tree to grow to maturity
- 99.7%: efficiency of exhaust systems in removing particulates
- 0 net CO2 emissions
- 10 colleges: Number of schools following Middlebury’s example

Quick Question: the Middlebury.edu website states that the Biomass Plant’s opening festivities will be conducted tomorrow, Thursday, as opposed to today. Just wondering if you could clarify as I am looking forward to it.
