Housing 2009 Revised
Following a spring-break email from Housing Coordinator Karin Hall-Kolts, MiddBlog has relaunched its Guide to Housing 2009 to reflect this year’s official housing blocks. Take a look and contribute
And the changes this year, while not completely out-of-left-field, are significant. Housing options are finally being updated to reflect the 4/2 Commons system, as well as the trend toward living with small groups of friends. With that goal in mind, housing this year seems to provide more small-group living options. Most notably, this means reducing doubles options offered as blocked singles in favor of offering groups living on a single hallway. For instance, Le Chateau is now offered exclusively as 3 and 4 person blocks, likely going to Juniors. Hepburn, previously arranged in two-blocked singles, now is consolidated to a few six-pack blocks on the fifth floor.
This makes sense. Stand-alone doubles have never been attractive but this system gives Juniors a chance to live with friends even if you are somewhat forced into a double. This plan attempts to create a suite-like atmosphere out of hallways. And long gone are the days of huge house-blocks of 8-10 people. It was hard to fill places like Porter House or Homestead House. And without the upperclassmen commons-based housing this year, more spaces are open for draw.
