The Campus 4/9
In an effort to deepen MiddBlog’s coverage of campus issues, this is a recurring column that comments on selected Campus newspaper articles, published most Thursdays of the school year. This allows a place for the Middlebury community to comment, expand, and discuss important issues in a dynamic way.
This Week in The Campus:
- Code debate comes to vote: When Katie Hylas ’09 says that this is “the biggest thing the SGA has accomplished since I’ve been involved,” she is right. But despite all The Campus coverage, students are not abuzz about this when they should be. Now that the SGA has some spark, they need to go on the offensive and get the student population to follow their lead. Hylas gets students informed and excited with her well-written 2011 Blog and a few editorials on the SGA Blog. Now, what if all Senators and Cabinet members started openly contributing to that discussion for the entire student body to see?
- Fee raised by 3.2 percent: Yes, the fee was raised as it is every year. It’s a $50,000+ education world! Cuts will continue despite better-than-expected performance.
- On that midnight train to…Middlebury: I don’t often highlight local stories but this one might be something to get jazzed about. Train service directly through our little town? Wait and see if this one pans out, 2013!
- History of Social Houses: Now this should be on the 2013 Challenge tour. Overall, a good history but whither DKE and the Zoo and Phoenix? How about next week The Campus covers those underground orgs?
