1st Verse
Yo I roll up to the mill with my flannel on
and from the lawn I can see that the party’s on
I see chips and dips (they got cheese’s right?)
Hell yea, Vermont Chedder, it’s purple Jesus night
I see my boys in the back, DJ spinnin the track,
hes with some bitches talkin smack that the tavern was whack
It’s the mill yo, and that’s what I told ya
’cause here we all G’s throwin free granola
I’m checkin out the honeys and I spy me a winner
she got Carhart overalls, stained with dinner
I weave through the crowd man I wish I were drunker
but Pub Safe rolls in, so I hit up the bunker
(chorus)
I’m a Midd Kid, I swing my nalgene low
Go Green on the side, sippin H20
I’m a Midd Kid, I roll my jeans up high
with my Teva strap tight and my flannel so fly
2nd Verse
I’m a Midd Kid yo and I’m livin’ it up
but I got too much work so I’m “Lib”in it up
Don’t get me wrong man I do what I please
feelin’ great cause I am and I gotta succeed
Lookin at my macbook, scopin the scene
I’m catchin eyes from this cute little library queen
I’m gettin up yo, but I gotta be patient
just wait till I see her at the printing station,
When I work I wear my sunday best
tight ripped jeans and corduroy vest
napsack with some 3 by 5′s
I stack books the pound, work a day at a time
Cause I’m a Midd Kid, gonna ace the test
and there’s no time to rest, no time to stress
I best hit up McCullough when it’s over and done
grab a fresh Odwalla cause I’m on the run
I’m a Midd Kid
(chorus)
3rd Verse
I’m flyin on the pitch as I catch the snitch
and if you dont play Quidditch, then you’re a bitch
Yo I rock 22′s on my Nimbus 3000
and fresh new shoes when I’m hikin a mountain
Keepers by the hoops, fliers in step
got my shorts real high, show my Hufflepuff rep
I got you by a step misjudgin my pass
look me in the eye and I’ll bludgeon your ass
I score 300 points to your 76
spitting fresh game at the Quidditch chicks (heey)
so don’t cross me bitch, I’ll just chuckle as you struggle
cause I’m a Midd Kid, and you’re just a fucking muggle (censored)
Bridge
This one’s for the girls, and Midd Kids all over the world
swinging your nalgene low (h20)
Now look at that bro, check out his flow
shawty…
-Key change- (Lax Bro chorus)
Cause I’m a lax bro, eh yo I flow in my Polo,
with Natty from a Solo yo, no homo
I’m a lax bro, I shred threads on the reg
all the ho’s should beg, so bitch pump my keg
Cause’ I’m a lax bro
4th Verse
I’m a lax bro yo North Face Denali,
rockin Rainbow Sands, wearin Abercrombie
I got 38 visors, a Brine Lacrosse net,
matchin popped collars in my walk in closet
I give my girl gift cards from Tiffany
I got bitches on the horn like I’m runnin a symphony
Watchu know about a female (You’re sperry’s are retail)
I get in box like gmail…
RL, Brooks Dave Matthews tee’s
Mickey D’s double cheese man I’m smashin these
My polo shirt I untuck it, playin ruit I reign buckets
if I ain’t rippin twine I’m sailin to Nantucket
Cause he’s a lax bro and I’m a laxtitute,
and I dont really care if he’s about to boot
he’s got a Top Gun pinney and he’ll pass with that,
Oh my god look at his backwards hat
(Lax Bro Chorus)

Good production values, maybe. As far as representing Middlebury, this doesn’t do it. There are a fair number of intelligent, interesting people here, too, not just easily sellable, mindless “hot girls” and drunk, sexually overstimulated boys. Maybe this is Midd for some people, but not all of us are preppy, sexist and completely intoxicated. Frankly, I find this disgusting.
why don’t you valet park your high horse, E
first of all, its a comical song and a rap video satire. The concept that makes the video hilarious is the over the top , ridiculous, and obviously not accurate portrayal of crazy parties, threesomes, slip and slides, and stacks of money at a party. If you are taking this video seriously and are offended, you are taking life and yourself way to seriously. So E, watch it again (and add to the hits on youtube!), grab a beer, and have a sense of humor for goodness sakes. You are the reason we need to do videos like this, to show that Middlebury isn’t filled with pretentious, uptight people void of a sense of humor.
who said the video needs to represent Middlebury College? and who said the video needs to represent ALL of Middlebury college…It’s a funny music video for entertainment, not an admissions or a “quick glance at Middlebury College” video.
I’m sure those who know the in-jokes think this is a wonderful, hilarious satire, but as someone who doesn’t actually go there I agree completely with E and say it’s gross, sexist and a terrible image for any educational institution. If your college wants to address those sorts of issues, do it in a positive way. This ain’t positive.
The intentions of the song and the video have always been to have fun and hopefully make some people laugh along the way (the name of the group is The Allen Jokers, after all). It was never anyone’s goal to create something that encompassed or claimed to represent the entire school and all of its students. This music video was created totally independently of the school during the free time of those involved, and even if it wasn’t, is it truly as bad as you say? I don’t want to sound like Sarah Palin not understanding satire when she excused Rush Limbaugh’s use of “retard,” but the fact is, this IS satire and it’s pretty sharp. Are some parts of the laxbro verse demeaning to women and homosexuals? Sure, but that’s also the stereotype. So while it’s fair to assert that Middlebury is full of intelligent, passionate and admirable students who don’t look anything like what’s represented above, it’s probably also fair for us to assert that their stories wouldn’t make for a particularly funny rap song.
Also, somewhere underneath the disgust of E and M is a valid point that I’m sure other people feel as well, but literally months of creativity, effort and support went into making both the song and the video, and it seems a little unfair to label anyone involved with the project as preppy, mindless, overstimulated, sexist drunkards, because literally none of those are accurate. Maybe that’s just the nature of putting something on the Internet and maybe what I’m really getting at is this: if you find this disgusting, why don’t you do better?
As a parent, I might agree that some of the over-the-top images of drunken behavior were not all that flattering, but .. this isn’t intended to be a recruiting video (aka Yale’s interpretation), it’s supposed to be … well, what it is. And it does so wonderfully.
I have to admit, I actually really, really like the thing. And for those NOT paying attention, the whole library and Quidditch references were totally not about drinking or other indecent/illegal behavior. The fact that someone has to spend their days and nights in a library to succeed? Seems reasonable as portrayed and the only thing liquid in that segment was a health juice. The language? Well, if you think it was concerning you obviously haven’t been listening to top 40 radio of late
Quite sincerely, I was incredibly impressed with the lyrics as they were written and the collaborative approach to laying down the original vocals so professionally. And if you know nothing of editing film, this was done incredibly well as well. In fact, it tells me that there are a wealth of different kinds of people at Middlebury and among them there exists such dedication and commitment. To complete this project in the time frame it took was incredibly ambitious. And to think, it was just for the helluva it? There’s a passion there that not easily definable. And my hat is off to them.
What this says to me is that there is room for lots of different kinds of kids and interests at Middlebury. Not all surround drinking and partying. Personally, I don’t think a sanitized view of the school would be nearly as compelling as this is.
And yes… I agree with Charlie hugely. If you are offended, please try and do something from another point of view. No one is stopping you. The question will be.. is it original, fresh, timely, and entertaining? All together not easily achieved, so go for it. But I have to stand up and say.. well done Midd Kid Rap.
This is funny and lighthearted. And to date, it is the first music video that has a Quidditch scene. What more needs to be said?
Amazing. A clever riff on the whole New England college experience. Nails it with flannel, eco chic, lax, lib time, and beer pong. The music and all the Middlebury vernacular is great. And who knew there were so many smokin’ hot Midd babes? Incidentally, what on earth were they thinking at Yale? That effort just lands with a thud.
Can i please just say that this is the greatest fucking song i have ever heard.
this is one great song. crazy props to the makers, but u really need an instrumental for it i can think of crazy people that could use it for school projects
I’m loving the lyrics– the rap seems obviously satirical and well-intentioned. but the video gives me pause– I just found out that I got into Midd, and I’m incredibly excited, but I was sort of surprised that this was how many Midd students (perhaps not those who created the video, but others who promoted it) wanted to portray themselves. I realized that this wasn’t intended to represent the school as a whole, but it seems like many alumni/students feel it did. and I’m not sure if this video is attracting prospective students who admire the creativity required to make it so much as kids who think that this looks like a good time… just some thoughts.
