Voices

Last night I attended Verbal Onslaught, Middlebury’s monthly spoken-word open-mic (always a good time), and had a fantastic surprise.  VO often invites guest performers to the event; last night’s invitees were Philip Hamilton ’82 and his Voices ensemble.  That name may look familiar: Voices will do a concert tonight in McCullough.  The event is listed as an “a capella event”, but D8 this ain’t (no offense).  It is 100% instrument-free, but the sound is much more urban and soulful than more traditional a capella.  Hamilton & co’s beatboxing/R&B/improvisation/world music/freestyle aesthetic had me literally dancing in my seat–and I was not the only one.

So, if you see this post in time, go see the full Voices concert tonight at 8:00 in McCullough.  $6 for Middlebury students.
