I said this in twitter as well, but people definitely come to our site for a campus photo slideshow. That’s probably because Middlebury, VT is so damn pretty and people like to see pictures of it. We’re working on a part of the site that features those pictures which will be accessible in the Quick Links, like most of the stuff on the right side of that Venn diagram already is.
Just like most websites, all the things people look for most are easily accessible in obvious places by clicking on quick links or the links below.
However, what sets Midd’s website apart is how it shows people things that may interest them that they would never have found or known about because they would be buried under a title like “press releases” that they would never click on.
The bars are not meant for someone who already knows what they want, they are there for someone who is just browsing or already found what they want. They are meant for prospective students, parents and alumni who want to learn about everything happening right now at Midd but wouldn’t click a link that said “research projects” or “college history.” However, they might be interested to learn about the future of coal or midd’s first women’s dorm. I would imagine some students are interested too.
Today - Partly sunny. A slight chance of flurries this morning... then a slight chance of snow showers this afternoon. Highs around 13. North winds around 10 mph. Chance of snow 20 percent.

I saw that this morning and laughed out loud, as I’ve been growing increasingly frustrated with every aspect of bowdoin.edu.
(From a purely aesthetic standpoint, I very much envy middlebury.edu’s crazy multi-planing section headers.)
To repeat a joke/comment by Prof. Jason Mittell – “and we failed in getting the college’s full name on the site!”
