Survivor South Pacific: Episode 12 Recap
Hey everyone, sorry for the delay in posting this recap, you know, finals happen and sickness abounds this time of year. Also, brief sidenote, my episode was accompanied by some girl practicing Bach on the piano. It was weird.
This episode continued the cycle of making us think something exciting is going to happen and revealing, surprise, that everything has happened exactly as we predicted it would. In any case, there were verrry entertaining developments in the social front.
The episode began with the Redemption Island duel, involving grappling hooks and a big labyrinth maze, between Ozzy and Cochran. Now here’s what we’re all thinking. Its Ozzy, right. Cochran is a little weird nerdy kid, there’s no way he wins. HE ALMOST DOES. Key word there is “almost.” But honestly, ‘almost’ is WAY more than anyone was expecting out of him. So Ozzy wins, surprise surprise.
Now, we’re far enough into the season to show the viewers just how hard this show really is with a tearful family reunion episode. Each survivor has a visitor to the island- dads, moms, brothers, wives- but they are only given a brief moment together before Ozzy gets to choose three contestants who will get to spend more time with their family members. (Artificially manufacturing some support for Ozzy- seems a little fake.) Ozzy picks Coach, Brandon, and Albert.
I have a few comments about some of the interactions with family members before we move on. Sophie, after hugging her father, tearfully requests peanut butter cups, freshly made banana bread, and a hamburger- a big one ready for her at the airport. Coach‘s brother- looks NOTHING like Coach. Seriously. He’s like a pudgy short pale white guy. And WOW MUSTACHE GUY WOW. Hugs his wife and than squeezes her butt for a really long time on national television. Too long if you ask me. I think you deserve a real name for that. Welcome to the club, Rick. Finally, due to Brandon’s extreme honesty, his father begins aggressively fighting his case with Coach, which is weird.
At Redemption Island, Coach promised Ozzy the final three, because he wants two warriors at the end- a true test of who will be the best Survivor and win. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHY WOULD YOU WANT THAT? This continues the wave of terrible decisions made by Coach.
In the challenge, which was a sort of puzzle game, Jeff was full of suggestive metaphors and Brandon continued his honesty policy, revealing to Edna that getting her out of the game is his goal (Coach won.) Edna, in a confessional that I entirely agree with, says that all of the contenders have been thinking of this game as a team sport. At some point, however, its got to be an individual game. Before tribal, Edna makes one of the strongest cases I’ve heard to keep anyone in the game- “I’m not going to win, guys.”
Despite the suggestions that Edna might have convinced the alliance to break apart, surprise surprise, she is voted out at tribal. As Jeff said at the end: “From the beginning you said it would be the five of you. Now what?:
NEXT WEEK:
Now that the alliance finally has to break down, its going to get pretty exciting.

Sophie’s in the finals but knows she’s going to get zero jury votes.
Remember that the last few competitions are specially designed to be ones that girls can compete in. Look for “balancing on a stick” kind of stuff.
