First Episode of “Legacies” Web Series Released

The team that brought us last year’s mockumentary-style series “Public Safety” is back in action this J-Term with a new online show entitled “Legacies.”

The series, directed by Brad Becker-Parton ’11.5 and produced by Rebecca Tharp ’12 and Matt Yaggy ’12, stars Adam Benay ’13.5, Greg Dorris ’13, and Ben Orbison ’12.5 as Chet, Zach, and Kevin, three college losers bumbling through the pledging process for Kappa Omega Chi. Tom Califra ’13 stars as the frat’s weird president with a cottage cheese fetish, and Ele Woods ’11.5 plays his girlfriend.

Episodes are released every Sunday night (prime procrastination time), and the first ep received over 400 views in just over 12 hours. Check out the first episode here:

Editor’s Pick: Judah Friedlander

Judah Friedlander

Come see me!

Wondering how to start off your Homecoming weekend pre-Bunker and/or LoFo? How about some fantastic comedy from 30 Rock’s very own Judah Friedlander!

In his very own words, “If you come to the show, that means you’re cool. If you don’t, it means you hate America.”

What:  Stellar Stand-Up by Judah Friedlander! Judah is a comedic force of the ages with his cross of messy hair, blue-collar-comedy-tour vibe, just a bit of narcissism (with his world champion title), and a laid-back made-for-mockumentary style. In addition to 30 Rock, he has been in over 20 movies and currently is on a stand-up tour. You can  be sure to count on the presence of the 30 Rock faithful in full force (#goTina) — though we cannot wait to see what else Friedlander can do!

When: TOMORROW Friday, Oct. 28th at 9:30pm (but I’d get there a  early to get a good seat).

Where: McCullough Social Space. A great venue,  still intimate enough to not have the weird vibe of sex jokes in Mead Chapel.

Price: $7 ($9 at the door) but don’t count on any tickets being left, so buy ASAP! Read more

First episode of Otters series ‘Public Safety’ released

Yesterday, campus comedy troupe Otters Nonsense released the first full-length installment of their new online show, “Public Safety,” as promised back in December. You can watch the episode below or on the show’s blog, where the troupe is also seeking donations.

My first impression is that the production quality of the show is first-rate. A solid plot line, interview asides with characters, and the amusing but maybe overly frequent glances at the camera, (taking directly from NBC’s “The Office“) gave me cause to laugh out loud a few times and held my attention for the duration of the episode.

It’s another venture away from the Otters’ typical repertoire of short-form improv, following their long-form show in Hepburn this past fall, but it’s a departure worth continued efforts.

Overall, a quarter of an hour procrastinating from my thesis well-spent. Leave a comment below and let the Otters know what you think.

Also (update 01.08.2011 4:50 p.m.): The Otters 20th anniversary show is tonight at 8:00 p.m. in Johnson. I’ve spotted legend alumni Xander Manshel ’09 and Adam Levine ’09 on campus, both expected to appear with a cast of twenty tonight.
