Q and A

This is a space to answer your questions, specific and broad alike. Some stuff you’ll just have to come to campus and do. But ask away in the comments and answers all the way up until you arrive will be answered right here. Some real examples to get you started:

Are there bike racks around?

Yes. All over the gosh darn place. Two things though: 1) use the bike racks not trees, 2) pay attention to emails when Public Safety cleans out old bikes just chained for months to the bike racks. Also in the winter, you can store the bikes inside. Ask your commons office where the best storage space is. Also, there is the on campus bike shop located in the basement of Adirondack house.

What kind of cable do we need to connect computers to the network?

An Ethernet cable. BUT, wireless is getting better by the month. Don’t count on it but wireless is found in all major public spaces but also in some random areas including some outdoor spaces.

What are the options if I don’t have a car on campus?

ACTR and Zipcar.

Back to Unofficial Orientation.

Not that I would bring my own, but what kind/how comfortable are the desk chairs in dorm rooms?

  2. All rooms come with some type of standard issue wooden chair (most of which are meant to rock a little bit). Surprisingly, they’re not wholly uncomfortable. However, if you’re going to be spending long hours at your desk, bringing an extra pillow or seat cushion helps a little.

Speaking of bikes… I read where there was a bike sale in the spring… any chance to have another in the fall? And if not, is there someplace to buy a bike nearby – cheap or otherwise?

  4. Last Spring’s was a bit of a rare treat. They were selling bikes that needed work. In the Fall, there aren’t any bikes sales that I know of yet but the bike shop in town serves students well. If you’re looking for something cheaper, head over to the basement of Adirondack House and meet some of the bike folks there. They would know more about where you might be able to get one.
